Sea dyke Westkapelle

Westkapelle is surrounded by water on the north, west and south sides; the village is protected by dunes and the sea dyke. In the 15th century, the construction of the Zeedijk was started. Over time, the dyke was continually raised and strengthened. When visiting Westkapelle, be sure to climb the sea dike to enjoy the magnificent view! The waves, passing ships and exuberant sunsets continue to fascinate.

Lighthouses

There are two lighthouses in Westkapelle, both of which are open to visitors. The 't Hoge Licht lighthouse on Zuidstraat and the 't Lage Licht lighthouse on Zeedijk. Climb all the steps and enjoy the view of the North Sea, the beach, Walcheren and Zeeland. The lighthouses also regularly host exhibitions.

Museum

In Westkapelle, the most important museum is the Polderhuis, a museum dedicated to dykes and war. It focuses on the history of the dykes and the bombings during the Second World War.

In the distance, you can see Zoutelande and Dishoek when taking a nice beach walk. Prefer the hustle and bustle? Then visit Domburg, Zeeland's oldest seaside village. Or go shopping in Vlissingen or Middelburg!
